Your right to a Good Faith Estimate
If you do not have insurance, or are not using insurance to pay for your care, you have the right to a written estimate of the expected cost of your care.
Ask about costs before care
You can request a Good Faith Estimate before scheduling. When you schedule eligible care at least three business days in advance, your provider generally must give you an estimate. For care scheduled 3–9 business days ahead, the estimate is generally due within 1 business day of scheduling; for care scheduled 10 or more business days ahead, within 3 business days. If you request an estimate before scheduling, it is generally due within 3 business days. The estimate should describe the expected charges for the items and services included.
Ask about any separately billed services or providers, including lab services. A Good Faith Estimate is an estimate of expected charges, not a bill.
Call (601) 515-4949 and ask the receptionist for help with a Good Faith Estimate or billing question.
Keep a copy of your estimate
If a provider or facility bills you at least $400 more than its Good Faith Estimate, you may qualify for the federal patient-provider dispute resolution process. The process has eligibility rules and a filing deadline, generally within 120 calendar days of the initial bill.
For the current rules, exceptions and help, visit CMS Medical Bill Rights or call the No Surprises Help Desk at 1-800-985-3059.
